1. Geriatric nurse
Geriatric nurses have a choice between various forms of work. They can work in facilities for inpatient care of the elderly, in outpatient care service, psychogeriatric and geriatric hospitals, information centres and day facilities.
The employer is, as a rule, a Müheim old people and nursing home, which is the cooperation partner of the specialist seminar, but can also be facilities from Duisburg and Essen. The training lasts three years and is divided into theory and practice blocks. The learning fields worked out in the theory course prepare you for practice. What is learned in classes can subsequently be directly tested during the internship. Practical work sessions predominantly take place in the old people or nursing home that is also the employer, but can also take place at outpatient services and in hospitals.
Geriatric care helpers work primarily in the inpatient care facilities of the elderly and in outpatient care service.
The prerequisite for this training is a secondary school degree. The training lasts one year, instructors and employers are the specialist seminar for geriatric care. The training takes place in block form and switches between theoretical blocks and practical employment. The latter takes place in inpatient and outpatient nursing facilities.
"The training for geriatric care helper should convey the knowledge, capabilities and proficiencies which are required for the qualified attendance and care of aging individuals in stable nursing situations under the supervision of a skilled nursing employee," states Article 1 of the German "Education and Examination Rules for Geriatric Care Helper Training".
