General psychiatry and psychotherapy

This is the slogan of the World Health Organisation (WHO) for the non-discrimination of psychologically ill people. The Department of General Psychiatry and Psychotherapy would also like to open their doors for people who are mentally ill with their inpatient, partly inpatient and outpatient help offerings.

Our inpatient area is divided into two areas.
with two wards each, both comprising 19 treatment places. In addition there is the outpatient clinic with eight treatment places.

The target group of the social-psychiatry treatment approach are patients with psychotic and psychosis-like illness symptoms – but also individuals who, for instance because of an overwhelming reaction to stress are temporarily not in the position to master their personal situations. The social-psychiatric treatment approach hence takes into account patients who require a longer-lasting and supportive treatment concept.
Here we take also in people who are a danger to themselves or others because of their illness. Although we stand for a concept of psychiatry which is open to the inside and the outside, sometimes the doors must remain closed for these individuals. True to the WHO slogan, however, we attempt to impose this sanction only temporarily and only for partial areas of our wards.

The target groups of the psycho-therapeutic treatment focus are individuals in conflict and stress situations. The typical illness symptoms include anxious-depressive disorders, personality disorders and severe psychological crises. Integrated in the general psycho-therapeutic treatment main focus are specific disturbance treatments for older depressive people as well (ward 7) and the emotionally frail with self-destructive behaviour (ward 9).
Within the therapeutic main focus areas, depending on their particular type of problems, patients have the possibility to consider diverse kinds of therapy. Apart from individual discussions with the reference therapist and the personal relationship with the nursing staff, there are psycho-therapeutic conversation groups, groups for the treatment of fear and depression, the improvement of social competence, cognitive-behaviour therapeutic oriented groups for older, depressive individuals as well as skill training according to the DBT concept. Activities such as occupational therapy, art, music and exercise therapy offer the possibility of approaching the problems "voicelessly". Relaxation processes and common activities with others round off the offering.
With every patient, an individual treatment plan is created in consultation with the entire team.
Drug treatment is used with state of the art pharmacy having almost no side effects. Our social service offers support in solving social-related topics.
After the inpatient stay, the treatment in our outpatient clinic or also outpatient in the outpatient department is continued if necessary.
